Does a Change in Words Equal a Change in Meaning?

An interesting discussion at Statement Analysis over the change from the KJV:

Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him.”

to a modern version:

The Lord is like a father to his children, tender and compassionate to those who fear him.”

The author asks a good question:

Which would you rather embrace, in a time of distress in life?

Read the discussion here: http://www.statement-analysis.blogspot.ca/2015/08/translation-question-for-analysis.html

How would you answer the author’s question?
